I interpret the supposed branding of conventional meaning in symbols as an indirect realism. I often work from a daily collection of noted visual fragments. In order to challenge an objective interpretation, I expose them to counterpart fragments in a particular setting. I consider the settings to be in a genre related to landscape planning diagrams, topographical maps or architectural plans. For me, these plans exist as standalone utopian environments where people can create things, or think, or interact, or observe. The content within the environment can be elusive, sometimes unrecognizable, and really there is no direct purpose- but a natural affinity based on the fundamentals of the grid system from which these maps were based. Contained within the spaces lie tension, energy, and a continuing duration for these naturals to occur. I compile paint, digital prints, silver gelatin prints, and screenprint drawings from computer.
